Cross Country 2023-24

Derby Runner 2023-24 Derby/Staffs league and North Midlands leagues are going ahead.

These are really fun, well organised events, for all abilities, with a great atmosphere. You just need to be prepared to get a bit muddy. We’d really encourage everyone to get involved.

You need to have selected the England Athletics affiliation option in your 2023/24 club membership subs in order to compete in the Saturday league (it’s a £11 surcharge on ClubSpark– we subsidise membership) – if you aren’t sure if you have paid this, or would like to follow up and add this at any time, Peter Green can assist (contact him via Facebook or Belpertentwenty@gmail.com).

Sunday league – Derby Runner (Derby/Staffs division)

a. Fixtures

• Race 1: 29 October 2023, Anslow

• Race 2: 5 November 2023, Allestree Park

• Race 3: 3 December 2023, Foremark (TBC)

• Race 4: 28 January 2024, Boothorpe (Conkers)

• Race 5: 11 February 2024, Shipley Park, Smalley (TBC)

• Race 6: 10 March 2024, Sinai Park (TBC)

b. Start time

Combined Men and Ladies (~ 8km/5 miles): Typically start at 10:30am

c. Eligibility

You need to be a member of Belper 10:20 (and ideally affiliated with England Athletics via Belper 10:20) to compete. You don’t need to have the England Athletics affiliation (but there is an extra charge of £2 per race if you are unaffiliated, like most other running races).

You don’t need to be first claim – i.e. if you’re a first claim member of another running club that’s not in the league, you can still compete for us as a second claim runner.

This season you don’t need to pre-register in order to run – you can just turn up on the day. Andy will need to take your details – name, sex, birth date and affiliation status – when submitting our finishers list at the end of the race.

The Sunday league has also started a junior race at 10am before each senior race. This is open to anyone in school years 7-12 inclusive – they don’t need to be a member of any club or EA affiliated, and they don’t need to pre-register. They can just turn up on the day and pay £2 to race. It’s ~0.75 miles for years 3-6, 1.5 miles for years 7-12. (At the end of the season medals will be awarded to any juniors who have run 5 of the 6 races, and category prizes will be awarded in 2-year age bands, i.e. years 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.)

Although you don’t need to pre-register, we would be grateful of a heads-up if you or your children are planning to run so we have an idea of numbers. The more the merrier – and we need at least 8 men (4 women) including vets to get a scoring team in the senior race, so don’t be shy!

d. Kit

You need to compete in club strip (official Belper 10:20 light coloured vest or tri suit).

The courses are mostly grass/mud so trail/fell shoes or spikes are best footwear if you have them.

e. Cost

Depends on the venue, but typically £4-7 per person (plus parking) for each race, payable on the day.
